Why Do Dogs Drag Their Butt on the Carpet?

Why Do Dogs Drag Their Butt on the Carpet?

Why Do Dogs Drag Their Butt on the Carpet?

Does your pet dog drag their butt on the carpet and grass? It’s called scooting, and if you’re a dog lover, you’ve probably seen this a few times. This article explains the most typical causes for scooting, how exactly to identify the underlying concerns, and some actions you can take to help prevent it.

  • Anal gland issues
  • Tapeworms
  • Excess fecal matter
  • Allergies

Although watching your pet drag their butt across your carpet isn’t exactly desirable, it’s important to never punish them. They’re doing this because they are suffering. Finding out what’s causing the irritation is what’s important, and once you do you’ll have the ability to alleviate your dog’s discomfort and stop them from suffering.

Anal Gland Issues Could Cause Irritation & Scooting

Anal glands (generally known as anal sacs) start getting full may be the most common reason behind dogs scooting their butts on the floor. It’s not the most pleasant subject to have a discussion about, but anal gland issues are very common and affect a lot of dogs.

Some dogs are inclined to get impacted anal glands, often because of a thicker fluid that’s struggling to pass to the exterior of the body. This can result in the sac getting infected and causing a whole lot of pain and irritation, and if left unattended can require surgery for the repair.

If you suspect your pet dog may have an anal gland issue check with your local veterinarian. Technically you can empty your dog’s anal glands yourself, but if you’ve never done it before, have your veterinarian educate you on how to perform the task. They are able to check to ensure there are no additional underlying issues also.

Tapeworms Could Cause Dogs to Drag Their Butts on the Ground

Another common reason dogs drag their butt on the ground is usually tapeworms.

Among the symptoms of tapeworms is scooting their butt on the floor due to the irritation that tapeworm segments cause to the region. Worms mature in your dog’s intestines, and tapeworm segments could cause irritation because they exit through your dog’s anus. The segments are small, but upon close examination, you might be in a position to spot them around your dog’s rear end. They appear to be tiny little white or golden colored bits of rice.

Tapeworm segments are only passed through intermittently and therefore are often not diagnosed on routine fecal examination. If you find any segments, white or golden color, bring them to your veterinarian for a definitive diagnosis. – VCA Animal Hospitals

If you suspect your pet has tapeworms check with your local veterinarian.

Excess Fecal Matter Could Cause Your Dog to Drag His Butt on the Grass

Excess fecal matter that gets caught around your dog’s rear end is another cause why dogs drag their butts on the ground. Known as Canine Pseudocoprostasis (or dingleberries), fecal matter that gets stuck on or hangs from the fur surrounding your dog’s anus can motive your canine to scoot his butt on the floor in order to shake it loose.

In longer haired dogs this may turn into a chronic condition, and prevention may be the most practical method for managing it.

Allergies Can Cause Irritation That Leads to Scooting

Skin irritation due to allergies can cause your dog to drag their butt on to the floor.

Many of the most common dog allergies consist of:

  • Food
  • Fleas
  • Smoke
  • Pollens
  • Mold Spores
  • Medications

Some allergies may be easy to identify — such as a diet change or flea infestation — but others, such as environmental substances, like dust or pollen, maybe harder to identify. If you think your dog may have allergies but aren’t sure what’s causing them to check with your local veterinarian for help determining what’s causing your dog’s allergies.

How to Help Reduce Your Dog’s Scooting

If you can’t figure out what’s causing your dog’s rear end to become irritated it’s time to consult your veterinarian. Identifying and managing the underlying issue will prevent your dog from scooting, and best of all it’ll make your dog feel a whole lot better.

According to Eames, those tasks may be done by a breed who doesn’t fit the popular image of a service dog as a retriever or a German Shepherd Dog. As the list of jobs for service dogs grows, so does the diversity of service dog breeds helping disabled people.

Then again, numerous patients, families, and coaches demand their dogs to precisely foresee and make aware of approaching seizures, and anecdotes about pet canines who alert without preparing have gotten a great deal of media consideration. Even a relaxed pooch could be a Drill Sgt with regards to their day to day routine because dogs enjoy a tedious schedule and they will love us all the more for it

Routines will undoubtedly be just as unique as those that exist by them, but in situations when there is a  doggy there are many key components that are non-negotiable:

Wake and Wiggle

Most people like to take their time waking up in the morning, lazily climbing out there of bed, having a cup of coffee, and slumbering around slowly to get up and going gradually.

As soon as dogs are up, they’re awake and wiggling those behinds, signaling that they’re ready for the day time to begin and for us humans to get our own butts in gear.

A Dog’s Breakfast

The British possess an amusing saying — when something is a real mess or poorly done they call it “a dog’s breakfast time. “But stateside, the particular dog’s breakfast has obtained an upgrade in current years. There’s nothing badly done about the unique breakfast bowls many special pooches are served these types of days. Super Easy Frozen Watermelon Dog Treats

Super Easy Frozen Watermelon Dog Treats

If you love making frozen dog treats, then you’ll love making these frozen watermelon dog treats. If you have some seedless watermelons, some ice cube trays, and a blender then you’re ready to go.

Super Easy Frozen Watermelon Dog Treats

The reason I love these frozen treats isn’t just because they’re so easy, but because they are so much softer than ice cubes. Choco has never liked regular ice cube treats, but he goes crazy for these frozen watermelon treats.

These treats are like frozen popsicles. They have some crunchiness, but they’re actually not hard to bite like ice-cubes are.

And when it comes to using human foods as dog treats, watermelon is one of our favorites. Watermelon contains a lot of vitamins and fiber, and since it’s comprised of 92% water, it’s low in calories.

Just remember, as, with any treats, moderation is key. Although watermelon is low in calories, they do add up, and introducing your dog to any new food can cause stomach issues.

Frozen Watermelon Dog Treats

Ingredients

  • One-quarter of seedless watermelon equals about 3 cups worth.

You can use more, depending on how many treats you make. One-quarter of a watermelon will fill two ice cube trays, making about 28 dog treats.

The reason you want to use seedless watermelon is that the seeds themselves can cause a blockage in your dog’s digestive tract, and the watermelon rind can also cause diarrhea also.

Instructions

  • Chop up your seedless watermelon into cubes.
  • Put the watermelon into the blender
  • Mix the cubes in the blender until they’re a smoothie.
  • Pour the liquid into your ice cube tray.
  • Freeze for about 3 hours.

That’s all there is to it. After they’re done freezing, you’ve got a low-calorie dog treat to help keep you and your dog cool in the summer.

What You Need to Know About Meat Alternatives in Your Dog’s Food

What You Need to Know About Meat Alternatives in Your Dog’s Food

What You Need to Know About Meat Alternatives in Your Dog’s Food

Regardless of whether you believe they’re yummy or net, crickets, growths, buffalo and more could be your pooch’s future supper.

Kangaroo, croc, and crickets, gracious me! Duck and buffalo aren’t the main intriguing protein hound nourishment fabricating wizards have been working as of late. While sustenance is advancing science, the explanations behind elective proteins, for the most part, fall under two camps: food sensitivities or being more environmentally friendly.

Dog Food Sensitivities

“In the event that a dog has a particular protein hypersensitivity to something like chicken or meat, these elective proteins can help,” says Lindsay Meyers, BS, CVT, item improvement, and veterinary channel chief for Primal Pet Foods in Fairfield, California. “We generally urge our clients to find a workable pace of the issue, which is gut wellbeing. We urge our clients to locate a couple of proteins that their pet excels on.

We purposefully utilized pork bone stock as the base of our Elixir items to guarantee that our hamburger and poultry-delicate pets could make the most of their advantages.”

Everything begins with adopting a novel strategy for your dog’s nourishment. “Regularly the initial step is to attempt an eating regimen that prohibits the most widely recognized pet nourishment fixings,” says Molly Mulcahy, VP of brand advertising for Stella and Chewy’s situated in Oak Creek, Wisconsin. “A tale protein is a protein source that isn’t regularly found in pet nourishments and in a perfect world that your pet has never been presented to. There is no set meaning of a ‘novel protein,’ yet the less basic its utilization in pet nourishments, the more liked. Venison, duck, and hare are instances of novel protein sources.”

Regardless of whether it’s a hypersensitivity or affectability might be obscure, yet there is at any rate one hypothesis. “It might be that canines have expanded nourishment sensitivities in light of the fact that, sometimes, we have them eat a similar eating regimen with little variety for quite a long time,” says Holly Ganz, Ph.D., CEO of AnimalBiome in Oakland, California. “Since microscopic organisms living in the gut help to process and process nourishment, this absence of assortment in the eating regimen may diminish the intricacy and strength of the network to annoyances like anti-infection agents or contamination.

Having a wide scope of proteins accessible in business pet nourishments will give us more open doors for nourishment turns that will probably assist with keeping up and reestablish gut wellbeing.”

Talking about assortment, for certain proprietors, that is reason enough to present less-regular protein sources. “There are a ton of incredible contentions for seeking after a rotational eating regimen for your pooch,” says Anne Carlson, CEO, and originator of Jiminy’s in Berkeley, California, which uses crickets for protein. “By rotating their nourishments, you offer them a chance to receive the rewards from different wellsprings of proteins, various vegetables, etc. Sort of like how we eat various foods to get all of our nutrition.”

Environmental Factors

In 2019, the British Veterinary Association (BVA) recommended owners to consider bug-based weight control plans as being more ecologically beneficial. Simon Doherty, previous president and current senior VP of the BVA, situated in London, clarifies a portion of the worldwide effects.

Those issues reverberate in North America, too. “We felt there was a superior method to sustain our pets, help nature and spare the lives of cultivated creatures,” says Florian Radke, CMO for Wild Earth situated in Berkeley, California. “Our Clean Protein Dog Food has all the protein and fundamental supplements that canines need — with no creature items and a small amount of the natural effect.”

“In the course of the most recent years, there has been an expanded open craving to know where creature-based items originate from and how they end up on both our and our pets’ menus,” Simon says. “Which is all well and good, inquiries around the wellbeing and welfare of the creatures in question and how the entire procedure impacts nature are frequently top of the rundown.”

Meat-ing Of the Minds

Dogs need meat protein to thrive, Or on the other hand is that right? “The way to effective nourishment in all pets is balance. While it is conceivable — however testing — to keep dogs healthy on a plant-based eating regimen, these weight control plans can leave our dogs lacking in significant amino acids,” as indicated by Megan McGlinn, VMD, clinical chief of the ASPCA Animal Hospital in New York City. “It is critical to have dogs on these sorts of diets firmly observed with customary veterinary assessments, yet in addition standard lab work, too.”

Work with your veterinarian to figure out what is best for your dog — which might be totally different than what is good for you.

“We invite pet owners looking into the sourcing and morals of their pet’s nourishment, however proprietors ought to be aware of anticipating their moral convictions onto their creatures and this subsequent in a lopsided eating routine,” Simon of the BVA says. “Remember that when bolstering our pets, a healthfully adjusted eating routine is basic. Proprietors should accept master guidance to keep away from dietary insufficiencies and related malady, as it is a lot simpler to get the equalization of supplements wrong than to hit the nail on the head.”

Simon proceeds, “We are not recommending that insect-based protein ought to essentially supplant encouraging cat and dog meat, yet it could be a choice to investigate for pet nourishment later on. We invite further research and comprehension comparable to bug cultivating and the job that bug items can play in creature sustenance.”

As indicated by Anne, crickets could, truth be told, supplant meat. “Our cricket protein is a finished protein with the entirety of the basic amino acids,” she says. “Jiminy’s banded together with Iowa State [University] to bring a profound jump into edibility, and the extraordinary news is that the cricket protein scored as high as chicken and hamburger. It’s a high-caliber, edible protein hotspot for our mutts.”

Florian of Wild Earth has an extra interpretation of assets. “Parasites proteins like yeast require way fewer assets than raising creepy crawlies for nourishment.”

Holly includes: “Plant-based proteins and contagious based proteins have been found to have total amino corrosive profiles, and have comparative bioavailability and edibility as proteins. We have discovered that the Wild Earth hound nourishment and treats increment decent variety in gut microscopic organisms, a feasible reaction to this novel nourishment. All things considered, numerous individuals like to bolster their canines a creature based protein. On the off chance that you are worried about the ecological effects of meat creation, you could turn these nourishments in on ‘Meatless Mondays’ or use them as treats.”

Holly adds: “Plant-based proteins and fungal-based proteins have been found to have complete amino acid profiles, and have similar bioavailability and digestibility as proteins. We have seen that the Wild Earth dog food and treats increase diversity in gut bacteria, a likely response to this novel food.

Still, many people prefer to feed their dogs an animal-based protein. If you are concerned about the environmental impacts of meat production, you could rotate these foods in on ‘Meatless Mondays’ or use them as treats.”

The Other F Word

Nourishment patterns travel every which way in the pet world, just as human (aspic, anybody?). In any case, makers are certain these elective proteins are staying put. Anne utilizes another human nourishment as a relationship. “We are toward the start of an excursion that will bring us down away like the one that sushi took,” she says. “Sushi is presently an ‘ordinary’ choice as we consider lunch or supper.”

As indicated by Florian, “The buyer attitude is changing, and individuals care about the effect their buy decisions are having. We accept this is only the start of a genuine purchaser insurgency and not only a popular prevailing fashion.”

Lindsay reports that Primal’s fascinating line has been developing consistently for very nearly 20 years and has not eased back down.

“We trust it’s reliable with a general move in pet guardians needing best for their creatures and getting increasingly instructed to discover it; we don’t think this is a prevailing fashion,” Molly of Stella and Chewy’s says.

A few nations have just demonstrated the life span of elective proteins for the two individuals and pets. “Creepy crawlies are a profoundly supportable protein source that is utilized by individuals in different spots that don’t have similar entomophobias that a few of us have,” Holly of AnimalBiome says. “In Namibia, I ate seared mopane worms, a delicacy all through Southern Africa.”

“Bug based fixings are now regularly utilized in UK aquaculture and poultry feed with dark officer flies and yellow mealworms among the most well-known in business creation,” BVA’s Simon says.

You might have the option to attempt some comparable treats for yourself, sans visa. T-Mobile Park (which used to be called Safeco Field) in Seattle has scored a grand slam presenting toasted grasshoppers at Mariners ball games since 2017. In 2019, eatery Evel Pie in Las Vegas began serving its Canyon Hopper pizza, which comprises of lime-and garlic-cooked grasshoppers.

What to Look For

Alright, you’d prefer to think about proteins past meat and chicken. Be that as it may, what would it be advisable for you to search for?

“Be sure the organization fabricating it is tireless about wholesome balance and bio-availability,” Lindsay of Primal Pet Foods says. “It’s our obligation to furnish our carnivorous house companions with the amino acids, nutrients, and minerals that they have to flourish.”

As anyone might expect, protein is a core interest. “Science shows that the stomach related arrangement of mutts (and people) couldn’t care less where the protein originates from,” Florian of Wild Earth says. “It makes a difference that the protein is finished, high caliber, bio-accessible and effectively edible.”

AnimalBiome’s Holly likewise focuses on a nearby take a gander at protein. “I prescribe that you take a gander at how much protein is in the eating regimen and select one that has under 35% sugars. This will help bolster useful gut microscopic organisms in canines and help to keep them from getting overweight.”

Toto may have had just a single sort of canine nourishment accessible, however, those days are a distant memory. Today, many pet guardians are taking a gander at various protein sources — for reasons as different as the proteins themselves. Conversing with your veterinarian and doing exploration to decide the correct one may take longer than clicking your heels multiple times, yet it’s constantly advantageous to

How to Stop Your Dog’s Constant Barking

How to Stop Your Dog’s Constant Barking

How to Stop Your Dog’s Constant Barking

Is your dog’s barking getting out of control or does the barking seem to get worse when you leave home? There are so many stop dog barking devices which one should you choose from? If you’re reading this article then I’m sure you’ve asked yourself… What’s the best way to stop my dog’s barking?

Dog bark collars can stop barking dogs quickly, easily, and humanely. When used properly, the electronic bark collar can stop your dog’s barking completely within a matter of a few days.

There are some shock collars, sound collars and then there are the mist spray collars. Let’s take a closer look and see what they include.

Most electronic bark control collars employ sound as the basic stimulus because it is well established that animals learn more quickly and retain a better memory when the desired behavior is associated with a sound. The more advanced models progressively increase the sonic stimulus as barking persists. Some models employ gradually increasing electric shock stimulus along with the sound to stop even the most stubborn barkers in a humane manner.

The more sophisticated electronic bark collars sense the vibrations in a dog’s throat that happen only during barking. By doing so, they prevent false corrections from other loud noises and from other dogs barking.

The drawback with some “barking dog collars” is that they may detect barking with a microphone and activate on sound; these can be set off by other noises or by another dog’s bark. Some Barking Dog Collars only use vibration; these can be set off by motion or jostling.

Stay Away from these Stop Dog Barking Devices

1. Bark Dog Collars the project a spray mist which startles and confuses the dog’s olfactory senses, causing him to stop barking. These mists may cause allergic reactions and hypersensitivity in your dog.

2. Independent devices that have a built-in microphone tuned to the sound of your dog’s bark. They emit a loud correction to startle the dog so he stops barking. They automatically stop and reset themselves after each auditory correction. The dog feels no correction with this type of bark stopper and can simply move away to another location further from the receiver and completely avoid the sound altogether.

Look for Stop Dog Barking Devices with these Features

1. One that simultaneously senses both sound and vibration, and only uses a combination of sound and vibration to trigger the electronic correction. By having both of these features, the electronic bark collar will be activated only by the dog wearing the collar, so there won’t be any “false corrections” caused by loud noises or other dogs barking.

2. One that automatically adjusts the level of static correction to your dog’s temperament with different levels of self-adjustable corrections in response to the barking intensity of your dog. The more intensity settings will help to accommodate the most sensitive too the most stubborn dogs.

3. One that provides a warning beep with the first bark.

4. One with a rechargeable battery, which features a low battery indicator light.

5. One that features a quick-fit buckle that provides a quick release.

6. One that is durable, lightweight, waterproof, and adjustable.

House Train Your Dog – The Simple Way!

House Train Your Dog – The Simple Way!

House Train Your Dog – The Simple Way!

Your new puppy is so cute. You cuddle with it every day, chase it around the yard and play tug-of-war with the stuffed animal. However, all is not fun and games in the house with the new puppy.

Now comes the hard part, house training the dog. As the new puppy does one of two things to relieve themself in the middle of your new white carpet, you find yourself wondering why it is so difficult for the dog to understand that you do not do it in the house.

You think to yourself, why would anyone, animals included, go to the bathroom where they live? Why would they not want it as far away as possible?

You think your puppy must be thick-headed; anyone with a dog has looked at their animal at this stage and said, “you stupid dog.”

However, then you remember for a couple of years after you were born, you not only went to the bathroom where you live but actually in your pants, and you feel slightly bad for being so frustrated with your dog’s seeming lack of intelligence.

House training a dog is, without a doubt, a frustrating process. You wish you could throw them outside, and they would figure it out themselves. Unfortunately, it is not this easy; it requires a bit more patience and perseverance. So you do a couple of things as you look at the seemingly hopeless situation that has the potential to turn very expensive if you are forced to replace your carpet.

First of all, you must remember that you knew house training a dog was not easy or fun, second, remember that you’re the one that bought the new carpet two months before you decided to get a dog.

Now go to the book store and find yourself the latest book on house training a dog and hope that it has some enlightening information that will save you both time and money.

How to House Training Your Dog Successfully

You could house training your dog quickly if you had the time to watch your puppy 24-hours a day. But since you can’t watch them around the clock, you can’t expect to train them all at once. Training can take up to about six months. Puppies are growing and developing quickly at this stage.

They eat more food and burn up a lot of energy and consequently need to ‘go’ more often. The most critical issue in house training dogs should be teaching him to control his bowel first. When he is still a puppy, he has not yet developed bladder control.

House training dogs is hard when you are not home. Your puppy needs a lot of attention. You should first confine your puppy in a puppy-proof room with paper spread all over the floor. Put his water bowls and food right next to it.

The papers you have set on the floor may be dragged and chewed around his little den, but it’s essential and helpful in teaching your puppy where to eliminate his waste correctly. There will be no reason for him to defecate elsewhere.

Your puppy will ‘go’ on the paper, and you need to clean it up when you arrive home. This may be additional work for you, but patience is all it takes. Don’t worry because later on, he will move past this stage.

Paper training is extremely useful and is a proven technique in training dogs. In this way, no matter where the dog relieves himself, he will still eliminate the paper because he has no choice. Little by little, you will see some changes.

Gradually reduce the amount of paper you have set on the ground. As your puppy has become used to using the paper, start gradually moving the paper outside the house. Since he has become used to using the paper, he will look for it.

After the paper has been moved to outside the house, your training is near its end. Move the paper about an inch per day. Be sure to reward your dog for their good behavior.

Occasionally, you may discover that they had an ‘accident’ inside the house again. Don’t become discouraged, when this happens, you just need to repeat the training again. But understand that it will not be as hard as the first time. Obedience training for your puppy is vital for both your dog, your sanity and sanitation.

The 5 Basic Puppy Training Techniques

The 5 Basic Puppy Training Techniques

The 5 Basic Puppy Training Techniques

I remember when my grandmother had the cutest little white dog when I was growing up. He was half-Poodle and half-Maltese. But no matter how much I cared for that dog, he was her baby. She got him quite by accident one day. She was returning from work and he was being mistreated, on the sidewalk where she walked. She gave the woman who was being mean to the little puppy ten dollars and immediately took him home. My grandmother, having no pets up to that point, got home with her new puppy and realized she had no food for him. So, she fried up some bacon and eggs and gave the puppy some of what she was about to eat.

That dog was forever unable to consume dog food for the remainder of its life. Spoiled and pampered, he ate bacon and eggs from then on at least three times a week. Baloney, hot dogs, and other dog-friendly foods rounded out his diet. He was, without a doubt, one of the most spoiled pets ever.

The moral of this story is that if you feed your puppy people food, that puppy will always want people food. Don’t think that even a puppy won’t turn its nose straight up in the air if given food that it doesn’t want to eat because it will. Dogs will eat grass, sniff their own messes, and lick themselves in front of your company. But if you put some less-than-savory dog food in front of them, the dog suddenly becomes a connoisseur of cuisine and nothing you can do will make it eat something it thinks it should not eat.

How to Prepare

If you unexpectedly find yourself with a puppy on your hands, you might be forced to throw something together in a pinch. It’s okay to give your pet special treats once in a while. And let’s be honest, you’re probably going to end up giving your puppy treats. While bacon and eggs might not be a good idea, it’s okay to give your dog some baloney or pieces of hotdog if you like. If you give the puppy real bacon, however, the puppy will never eat the fake bacon treats that you purchase for your pet.

It’s best if you get prepared before you ever bring your puppy home. First things first, the puppy needs a little space to call its own. Perhaps a doggie bed with some toys, a food dish, and a water dish must all be laid out and made ready for the newest addition to your household. If your puppy isn’t housebroken (and in almost every case, it will not be), put down a liberal amount of newspaper in the puppy’s area. An untrained puppy is going to mess on the floor and there’s nothing you can do about that. By preparing for the worst and putting down plenty of newspaper, you might be able to save your flooring.

Have a place for your puppy to sleep. True, most puppies will grow into doggies that will sleep in bed with you, but in the beginning, your puppy may not be big enough to jump into bed. You’ll have to put the puppy in your bed if that’s where you want your pet to sleep, but there is a note of caution with this. Animals that learn at a young age to sleep in your bed are always going to sleep in your bed. So you may want to have a special little bed just for your puppy.

Bringing Your Puppy Home

Your puppy won’t know that your home is its home right away. Probably the first few weeks of life have been confusing for that puppy, anyway. By the time your puppy comes home with you, it’s already been separated from its mother, brothers, and sisters, and might be coming into a home where no other animals live. It’s a very traumatic experience for your puppy, and keep in mind that the puppy doesn’t quite know who you are yet.

There are five essential guidelines that you need to keep in mind when teaching your puppy the basics about proper behavior. Choosing the right training method is what will make or break your training schedule with your new puppy. If you follow this blueprint when training your puppy, it will be much simpler than your previous experiences.

How to Care for Your Puppy

1. Be Loving – Your new puppy dog is going to be scared at first, and as a result, they may not be able to handle anything too stressful. Although learning generally takes place quickly, now is the time where your puppy will react poorly due to stress or being trained too rough. You don’t want fears to be picked up too quickly during this time. Take this time to build the foundational relationship of love and trust.

2.  Keep Training Short – Puppies have shorter attention spans than children, and your puppy is only going to learn when their attention is on you. You will not see the immediate results that you are looking for when your puppy is tired so make sure to keep the training activities short with what you put your puppy through, then give them a chance to rest.

3.  Exercise Patience – Don’t expect overnight results, that will create stress and cause your training schedule to lose its focus. Understand that this will take time, and puppies learn in spurts. Puppies also go through lapses of memory, so don’t allow yourself to become upset if your puppy seems to forget some of its training from one day to the next. Exercise patience when it comes to teaching, and you will be just fine.

4.  Keep It Simple – Teaching your puppy should be a step-by-step process if you want them to attain the best results. Exercising a simple approach with your puppy will help them learn more quickly, and you both will enjoy the process more than if you were to use a more intensive training method.

5. Building Confidence – Confidence is the core of every dog, and confidence begins with building confidence within a young puppy. Building confidence in your puppy is natural; dogs are meant to be socialized and all you need to do is spend time with your puppy as often as can and socialize them with other dogs. Spend time playing and having fun with them.

Do you have friends with dogs or puppies? Go out to the park and spend time playing together. You shouldn’t always be in training mode when you first get your puppy; you should be having fun and focusing on building the relationship first. These five basic training guidelines are great in preparing your puppy for a training schedule. This will provide better results when properly integrated into your step-by-step puppy training process.

How to Pick the Perfect Puppy

How to Pick the Perfect Puppy

How to Pick the Perfect Puppy

If you’re thinking about getting a new puppy dog, there are a few things to remember before you make that decision. Currently, millions of dogs are euthanized in animal shelters every year, due in part to making the wrong decision on the type of dog to buy.

I made a list of 6 important things to consider to help you make the best decision finding the right dog for your personal needs as well as your personality type.

1. How much time can you devote to your new puppy? There are specific breeds, such as border collies, that require a great deal of attention and do not do well in a situation where they will be confined alone for long hours at a time.

Be realistic with your expectations and select a breed that is known for their patience and ability to spend a few hours apart from you.

2. Size Matters. Although your new puppy may be a small bundle of joy right now, in six months, you may be dealing with a monster. If you don’t have a lot of space a large breed may not be the best choice.

In addition to space constraints, it’s a good idea to remember that large dogs eat quite a bit more than the average teacup poodle and if you’re on a tight budget, a smaller dog will be more economical.

3. Research Dog Breed Traits. Buying a puppy should not be based on which dog is the cutest, or which breed you always thought looked nice. Take the time to thoroughly research these traits so that you can make an informed decision.

Some breeds shed more than others, while some breeds have known behavioral issues. For example, Great Pyrenees dogs are very beautiful, but they are bred for livestock guarding and not apartment living.

4. Research Dog Breed Health Issues.  This is becoming a bigger problem due to improper breeding. Every breed may have congenital health issues, but some may be more severe than others. For example, German Shepherds are known to have problems with hip dysplasia, while some smaller dog breeds may have problems with their eyes.

5. Pick the Right Dog Breeder. Many future health and behavioral issues can be avoided simply by choosing the right breeder. Once you have decided on the breed of dog that you would like, contact that Purebred Registry for an accepted list of breeders. This will save you time, heartache, and money.

6. Consider a Pet Shelter. Adopt-A-Pet is just one of many alternative pet shelters you have to choose from and they may be a good option if you do not have small children or if you do not mind getting an older dog. You could save a life by adopting a shelter pet and still end up with a wonderful and loyal companion.

Selecting a puppy is an emotional decision, but it pays to keep these points in mind before you make your final decision. Once you’re armed with the right knowledge, you’ll be able to pick that perfect puppy that the whole family will enjoy and love.

5 Easy Ways to Spot a Puppy Mill

Puppy mills can be found in almost every city.

But how can you spot them?

Here are five easy signs if you’re dealing with a shabby dog breeder.

  1. You won’t be allowed to meet the parents of the pup you’re interested in at a puppy mill or farm.
  2. The address for many puppy mills is in an industrial area, as opposed to a family home.
  3. The areas where the dogs and puppies spend their time are not well taken care of and are confined
  4. Puppy mills breed a lot of different breeds at once to always have pups available.
  5. They don’t ask you any questions about why you want to get a dog.
